The goal of all rules and decisions is to maintain fair, competitive, organized, and enjoyable events.
The Martial Darts Player Rating Bust Rule is designed to protect the integrity of player ratings, maintain fair competition, and discourage players from intentionally or unintentionally providing an inaccurate player rating when signing up.
Open events with NO handicap are not subject to the Player Rating Bust Rule.
Open events that use a handicap ARE subject to the Martial Darts Player Rating Bust Rule.
For open handicap events, all applicable rating bust rules, game minimums, thresholds, and financial penalties apply.
Players who have accumulated 40 or more total games within the past 6 months are considered established players and are not subject to the Martial Darts Player Rating Bust Rule.
A player with fewer than 40 total games must play a minimum of 10 games in the event before becoming eligible for a rating bust.
A player’s final event rating will be compared against their applicable Martial Darts player rating or the rating provided when signing up.
The difference between the player’s applicable rating and their final event rating determines whether the player has busted.
The bust threshold is based on the actual numerical difference, including decimal values.
Rating Increase Above Eligible Rating | Penalty |
0β7.99 points | No penalty |
8.00β9.99 points | 50% forfeiture |
10.00+ points | 100% forfeiture |
If a player or team is determined to have busted their rating, the applicable percentage will be deducted from the total winnings earned from that event.
All money forfeited will be added to the bounty rollover for the next said event.

The forfeiture percentage is based on the total event winnings, not just the tournament placement payout.
Example:
A player or team earns:
Total event winnings = $600
For players with fewer than 40 total games, the normal 10-game minimum does not protect a player who finishes 12.00 or more points above their eligible rating.
The 12.00+ exception is intended to prevent a player from avoiding a rating bust by playing fewer than 10 games while significantly exceeding their eligible rating.
Once a player reaches 40 total games, they are no longer subject to the Player Rating Bust Rule.
A player with 40 or more total games has no rating bust penalty and remains eligible for all tournament payouts and bounty winnings.
Martial Darts reserves the right to review:
to determine whether a rating bust has occurred.
